Dynamic Art Museum
Art Evolution exhibition
Milan, Italy
DART, the Dynamic Art Museum, was a Milan museum project founded by Piergiulio Lanza that presented itself as one of the first physical spaces dedicated to NFT art on a large scale, with a programme of works that changed continuously rather than a permanent collection. After its crypto art exhibitions at the Museo della Permanente, where Federico Clapis was already among the featured artists, the museum operated from a palazzo on Via delle Erbe in the Brera district, close to the Pinacoteca and the Accademia di Belle Arti. Art Evolution was one of the exhibitions in its Milan programme.
The installation views show a darkened room in which the works are displayed on vertical screens mounted on wheeled stands, set out in a row along the walls, each paired with a black panel carrying the artist's name and text; Clapis' panel stands beside one by Fabio Giampietro. His contribution is an image from the Babydrone series, in which a drone carries a newborn in a sling like a contemporary stork: here the scene is rendered in a pale, almost monochrome palette, with the drone, the sling and the curled child set like a sculpture in a concrete courtyard. The neighbouring screens show works by other digital artists, among them a portrait, a geometric form and a colourful illustrated figure.
The presentation reflects the museum's approach of treating NFTs as works to be seen in a physical exhibition space, and places one of Clapis' recurring subjects, the arrival of technology into birth and childhood, among Italian and international crypto artists in Milan.
