Dreamverse in New York
The Babydrone genesis piece, during NFT.NYC
New York, USA
Dreamverse was a one-day festival of music, art and technology held at Terminal 5 in Manhattan and timed to coincide with the NFT.NYC conference. It was produced by Metapurse, the crypto fund that had acquired Beeple's Everydays: The First 5000 Days, in partnership with TIME, and was divided into a daytime gallery and an evening party. The gallery gathered work by around 150 artists, selected through ten curators and a group of featured artists and platforms, with augmented and virtual reality, scaffolding-like structures and a large screen dedicated to Beeple's composite piece.
Federico Clapis was represented by BabyDrone, the 1/1 work that marked his entry into crypto art, shown under the name of SuperRare, which appeared among the featured participants. The footage from the evening shows the piece on a tall vertical screen set within a frame of blue neon tubes: a white drone holds a newborn wrapped in a sling, floating against a black background, with green captions carrying the artist's name, the title and the platform, and a QR code linking to the work.
BabyDrone began as one of Clapis' best-known sculptures, an image of a generation for whom technology is part of life from the very first moment. Seeing its digital version presented in a large New York venue, among many of the names that defined the early NFT market, marks the passage of his practice from physical objects to works that exist natively on the blockchain.
